Farmer’s Market PB&J

Where you get your food is important not just because of quality and price, but also who you’re supporting by handing over some of your hard earned cash. If you live in a place that has access to locally grown and farm fresh food, there’s no comparison to the taste of fruit from your local farmer. This recipe is a simple adjustment to a classic recipe that will save you money and change your taste buds forever.

You’ll need:

Seasonal berries (pictured: blend of blackberries and cherries)
Raw Sugar
Raw peanuts
Vegetable/canola or peanut oil
Fresh bread
Salt

For the jam, chop all the berries into tiny pieces. The smaller the pieces, the smoother the jam. Heat berries over medium heat and stir in sugar to desired sweetness and consistency. It will probably be around 1/4 cup sugar to every 1 cup of fruit. Stir occasionally over heat for about 10-15 minutes. Jam will thicken while cooling.

For the peanut butter, place peanuts in food processor and pulse until pulverized. When the mixture gets a little dry, add a few drops of oil and blend, stopping to scrape down sides of the bowl occasionally. Sprinkle in salt and/or sugar to your taste preference. Blend until smooth.

Jar whatever peanut butter and jam you have left and store for future use. You’ll find that you get much more for your money when making your own spreads. Assemble your PB&J on bakery fresh bread, and enjoy. Once you eat a PB&J from farm fresh ingredients, you’ll never want to buy generic grocery brand again.

Last Friday, we gathered at Exit Skateshop in Philadelphia to celebrate the release of my first full length, Crooked In My Mind. Special thanks to David Shiraki, Organized Grime, Exit Skateshop, Run For Cover Records, Vinnie Caruana, Dads, Modern Baseball, Turnover, Matt Wren, Dani Fresh, and Alex Henery (who made this video). And a huge thank you to everyone who came to the show and sang along. It was perfect.
